Who's afraid of a settlement?
Denktash fears the accession of Cyprus to the EU because it will mean the termination of Turkey's 'rights' over Cyprus.

Denktash fears that the Ecevit government may abandon him, that it may 'cut and run' and make significant concessions on Cyprus, finding its reward with Turkey being accepted as an EU candidate member this December at the Helsinki Summit. Denktash knows that such a deal on Cyprus would bring the whole of the island within EU jurisdiction and hasten the return of the refugees to their stolen lands!

EU membership pre-supposes freedom of movement, settlement and ownership of property - a state of affairs Denktash knows would confound his efforts to keep Greek Cypriots out of what is now the occupied area of Cyprus.

Denktash fears the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights which found Turkey guilty of violating the human rights of Titina Loizidou to enjoy peacefully her property in Turkish occupied Cyprus and of denying her access to it. Inspite of postponement of enforcing the decision by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the decision must eventually be implemented. And Titina Loizidou is not even a refugee.

Above all it is the refugees whom Denktash fears most, for they have the moral and legal right to return to their stolen homes and lands.

No sleight of hand or desperate efforts to make 'TonC' (Turkish occupied northern Cyprus) a 'sovereign and independent' state alter the fact that over 90& of the land in the occupied north has been stolen and the title-deeds issued by the Denktash illegal regime are not worth the paper they are written on!

Mr Denktash, you stole our lands, our homes.

We want them back!

THAT IS OUR PRECONDITION!
