According to Rauf Denktash, leader of Ankara's puppet apartheid regime in occupied Cyprus, intercommunal talks have come to an end as a result of the European Union's recent invitation to Cyprus for accession talks.
In a letter to the United Nations, Denktash states that in light of the EU decision adopted at the Luxemburg summit concerning Cyprus' application, "from now the only talks that can be held on the island are talks between states having equal status".
The Turkish Cypriot leader has further declared (7 December 1997) that "the Greek Cypriots were punished once in 1974 and now their punishment will be taksim [partition]".
Both Denktash and Bulent Ecevit, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, have threatened enactment of "agreement proposals" signed in 1997 in order to integrate the occupied north of Cyprus into Turkey.
Denktash insists that there will be no resumption of talks until his existence as the so-called president of the illegal "TRNC" is recognised; Turkey's guarantee agreement continues, including its 'right' on intervention and the Greek Cypriots refugees' consent to "property exchange".
Given the above, Lobby for Cyprus reiterates its message clearly and unequivocally.
WE, the Cypriot refugees:
- totally reject Denktash's demands for "two states";
- will never accept property exchanges or compensation for surrendering our rights to our properties stolen by the Turkish occupation regime;
- will never accept territorial adjustments and accomodations that deny our inalienable and unconditional right to reclaim and resettle our stolen lands and properties.
We will NEVER accept the division of our country in the guise of a federated system which will legalise the invasion and occupation of our lands.
To Mr Denktash and his sympathisers:
We will return to a free and united Cyprus, the common home of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots (indigenous only) without separating lines and apartheid.
